Dr. Mekdes Daba
Spotlight
Dr. Mekdes Daba is a mother of two, as well a renowned Public Health Specialist at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College and is now President of the Ethiopian Obstetricians and Gynecologists Association(ESOG), She was also a Family Planning Fellow and Medical Officer at WHO Geneva, Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research.
The story of Dr. Mekdes goes a long way as she has served in several senior managerial positions, Head of School of Medicine and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hawassa University, She has also served as a chair for the Civil Society Advisory Group for UN Women Ethiopia, a board member of Center for International Reproductive Health and Training (CIRHT), editorial board member of the Ethiopian Journal of Reproductive Health and a member of the RMNCAH, technical advisory group to WHO/AFRO.
Dr. Mekdes is also known for her leadership and advocacy work on reproductive health, gender equality, and prevention of gender-based violence with compassionate care for sexual assault survivors. She is nominated to be part of EMeWA’s Celebrating Women in Medicine 2020 for her outstanding leadership contributions and achievements which are exemplary.
She has recently won the International Award New Media Network (AMN) winning the International Obstetrics and Gynecology Award for her research and contribution to gynecology and obstetrics. According to ENA, Dr. Mekdes won the International Obstetrics and Gynecology Award for her research and contribution in obstetrics and gynecology. Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse on her Facebook page congratulated Dr. Mekdes Daba and thanked her for her efforts in obstetrics and gynecology.
