July 1, 2021

Ethiopian Minister, Takele Uma has inaugurated 2 plants aimed at producing coal for the nation’s demand.

The first is a coal washing and processing facility being built in the Gurage Zone by SUN Mining and Trading Plc, a subsidiary of the Sunshine Investment Group, with a capacity to process 800,000tn of coal yearly and expected to be completed in 10 months. The other, being developed by NOC Ethiopia at Assosa, is expected to be completed in 11 months.

Ethiopia imports coal worth more than $200 million each year for cement manufacture and energy generation. The aim of the two plant projects is to mitigate the annual importing costs of coal into the nation.
