Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha set a meeting and Diamond League record in the men’s 3000m with a world-leading personal best of 7:26.25. Which is just a second below the Haile Gebresillasie’s 1998 race record.
It’s also a Diamond League record, the quickest time in the world this year, and pushes Yomif up to #7 on the all-time list for the tournament.
The world 10,000m silver medalist Yomif, steps down in distance to run the men’s 3000m after placing second in the 10000m at the Olympic Trials in 26:49.73. Kejelcha has outstanding personal bests in the 1500m (3:32.59), 3000m (7:26.25 from 7:28.00), and 5000m (12:46.79).
The two-time world indoor 3000m champion and world 10,000m silver medalist demonstrated his prowess over the distance by effortlessly kicking away from Kenyans Jacob Krop and Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli.
