The Ethiopia Pavilion at Expo Dubai was officially opened on Oct 05 in the presence of high-ranking officials and diplomats. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the UAE’s Trade and Industry Minister, Ambassador Minsganu Arga who is the Ethiopian Consul General in Dubai, Ambassador Eyerusalem Amdemariam, religious leaders, and senior authorities from Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Ambassador Misganu Arga emphasized the importance of the Expo in showcasing Ethiopia’s culture, history, business, and investment possibilities, as well as tourism attraction locations to the rest of the globe. In 1974, the 3.2-million-year-old skeleton of Lucy – locally known as “Dinknesh,” meaning “you are magnificent” in Amharic – was discovered in Afar Region, rewriting the history of human development and earning Ethiopia the title of “cradle of mankind.” Ethiopia has successfully preserved its originality, culture, and values throughout its history, all of which will be on exhibit at the country’s Pavilion during the 182-day Expo. Relic of Lucy, a replica of the earliest human fossil ever discovered, was successfully erected in the Ethiopia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai as part of an exhibit that illustrates Ethiopia’s ongoing role as a living center driving and facilitating connections between Africa and the rest of the globe. The Ethiopia Pavilion began with a visit to Lucy in a dimly lit cave, followed by a tour of the country’s prehistoric past and a modern factory highlighting the country’s manufacturing accomplishments.
