The UAE has donated a number of ambulances to Ethiopia’s healthcare sector through the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) which is a volunteer humanitarian organization that supports official authorities in times of peace and war. In 1986, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies recognized the organization as a member.
The generous gesture also demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to providing critical services to the world’s poor, particularly in the healthcare sector. The ERC’s Secretary-General, Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, stated that this effort is one of several humanitarian measures made by the UAE to support Ethiopians and refugees in various areas suffering humanitarian problems.
In 1986, the UAE Red Crescent Authority was internationally recognized as a member of the International Federation of Red Crescent and Red Cross. In 1986, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan became appointed Chairman of the Board of the Red Crescent, and in 1993, he became appointed Chairman of the Authority, giving power to the human Authority’s operations.
