Ivory Coast collaborates with ENI, an Italian multinational oil & gas company, to start production in 2023.

December 17, 2021

In September, the Italian company ENI announced that during a drilling operation off Cote d’Ivoire’s coast, they discovered large deposits of oil and gas that could hold an estimated 1.5-2 billion barrels of oil and 1.8 -2.4 trillion cubic feet of associated gas.

After over 20 years of industry exploration in Ivory Coasts’ deep waters, this was the first discovery. Following this, Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and ENI CEO Claudio Descalzi announced their partnership for oil and gas production on Friday, December 10, 2021.

The project will start in a few months and drive additional gas research. The Ivorian president stated that there are several pieces of training given to the employees to ensure decarburization, so operations don’t create more CO2 problems. The Ivorian president announced that from 2023- 24, Ivory Coast would be a notable oil producer.
