Council of Ministers agrees to establish the Ethiopian Investment Holdings – Ethiopia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund.

January 1, 2022

The Council of Ministers contemplated the draft law instigated to manage the objectives and mission of the Ethiopian Investment Holdings during their meeting on December 29, 2021. Ethiopia’s Investment regulation is subjected to multiple laws chiefly imposed to facilitate, promote and enhance foreign direct investment in Ethiopia.

They describe the preconditions to be a competent investor and establish a sustainable investment in Ethiopia. The conditions are comprised of the areas saved for specific investors, forms of investment, and capital requirements. Ethiopian Investment Holdings is considered Ethiopia’s strategic arm and is devised with a framework corresponding with other countries’ sovereign wealth fund management institutions.

EIH will integrate public resources within one institution & form administrative systems for state-owned companies’ high returns. It aims to use professional management & adopt international best practices to expand state-owned assets’ value. The EIH will be made effective by the Council of Ministers after being published on the Federal Negarit Gazeta.
