Ace Yilma is a multidisciplinary artist, born in Addis Ababa, specializing in filmmaking, photography, and graphic design. Ace immigrated to the States at an early age and grew up in Philadelphia. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in film studies from the University of Pittsburgh, his interest in the art of filmmaking has led him to write, produce, and direct a number of contents. The simple yet endless nuances of life inspire his work. Ace aims to capture those subtle shades of meanings, feelings, or tones that we often miss. Ace highly believes that films have a way of altering people and the world we live in and his mission is to utilize this enormously powerful medium to accentuate the Ethiopian culture and re-imagine our perception of it.
Ace acted as a whole team for a short film named “The Recall” in 2015. He was the director, writer, cinematographer, editor, and producer for the movie. It was officially selected at the Pittsburgh Independent Film Festival in 2015. He was also a director in the movie “ No Parking ” which was released in 2018. In the same year, He worked as an editor for a movie called “Hidden Genius”. He was also an actor in “No Parking” playing Randy.
Ace is the founding member of the Habesha Film Association a non-profit organization that aims to bridge the gap between the Horn of Africa and the global community by creating an open network of professionals in the film industry. We appreciate Ace for being a role model for young Ethiopians who are striving to excel in the film industry.
