The Ministry of Education announces a project to build 50 standard boarding schools across Ethiopia.

January 10, 2022

The Ministry of Education prepared the 50 boarding schools project because almost all schools in Ethiopia aren’t standard. Professor Birhanu Nega, Minister of the Ministry of Education, stated that out of 48,000 schools in Ethiopia, only 0.01% are up to standard. Only six schools are level 4 (standard).

The Ministry aims to significantly increase school standards to nurture students’ physical & mental growth. The boarding schools’ design will be created by the Ethiopian Architects Association, who eagerly volunteered. Several engineers have also revealed their willingness to engage in the national project.

The Ministry of Education has several strategic goals to increase the quality of schools in Ethiopia. It focuses on the fourth SDG that ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. The Ministry appreciates the efforts of the Ethiopian Architects Association and the engineers in the building of the boarding schools.
