Revenue from coffee exports reaches Ethiopia’s highest ever of 578 million USD, a 60% increase from 2021.

January 20, 2022

Ethiopia initially planned to earn about 405 million USD from coffee exports in the last six months. However, the country received its highest-ever revenue of 578 million USD, a 60% increase from 2021, 274 million USD. This is due to the gap created between coffee suppliers & exporters, the removal of coffee brokers, upgrading coffee quality, & updating online transactions that tremendously increased coffee exports.

Among the top export destinations for Ethiopian coffee are Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Japan, and the United States. In addition to these countries, China moved up from 33rd place to 8th in the past six months.

The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority mentioned that the considerable increase in earnings from coffee exports had been associated with vertical integration from coffee farmers to vendors. The authority added that this was due to its execution of working procedures to simplify the process and shorten the coffee production-to-market chain.
