The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation (MoFAIC) launches Etihad 7 for African countries.

January 28, 2022

The United Arab Emirates launches Etihad 7 to fund renewable energy projects in Africa at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2022. Etihad 7 is an innovative program dedicated to securing funding for renewable energy projects in Africa.

The initiative helps African countries fulfill energy needs without growing greenhouse gas emissions. It aims to supply clean electricity to 100 million people by 2035 and meet Africa’s fast-growing energy needs.

The initiative will leverage existing connections in Sub-Saharan Africa, like diplomatic, humanitarian, and development cooperation, to distribute the renewable energy expertise of the UAE to promote economic expansion and human development. The UAE has several previous agreements with Sub-Saharan African partners under Etihad 7 to attain their clean energy and financial gains.

The MoFAIC stated that the initiative is on top of the UAE’s long-term and strong connection with Africa and is the central point of the country’s attempt to help towards the global sustainability agenda for the next decade.
