Agelgil Records is a team of artists trying to create a safe environment for artists to use their creativity and intelligence with detailed execution. Kermon Bemedaf is a project with combined efforts of artists who came together to portray the EP exquisitely. They officially launched their first project with Rass, their first artist, with a 6 track EP.
Rass is a Hip-Hop and experimental artist who goes by the name Rass (ራስ), an Amharic word used as a royal title meaning a Duke crowned by the king. It also means being one’s self. Rass’s Ep titled “Kermon bemedaf” revolves around the idea of having the past at the palm of our hands depicting the fact that we are responsible for what’s to come next. He symbolizes the culture and all that comes with it have been acquired from our ancestors with a medal (Nishan) that was awarded to heroes during Ethiopia’s monarchical times.
Rass starts off his EP with the track named “Yeman nat” by claiming his history and culture taking responsibility as a trusted king’s duke. Following the intro sound, there are “Yenealem”, “Sewnet”, “Banchi” and “Yemr” where he explains our cultural values and norms as well as what it means to be complete human beings by seeing beyond a person’s physical appearance. Moreover, he expresses his concept of unity in a way that fuses modern-day music with the traditional one. He then goes deeper to convey his profound desire to protect the culture and what makes us who we are in a poetic and sincere expression. He concludes his EP with an outro, “Almaze” where he goes further in a more raw hip hop flow to express his ideology and what will come in the near future that he likes to call “Wubalem” meaning Utopia.
We appreciate Agelgil records for putting a team of artists to create something exquisite and inspiring for young generations to look up to. Rass should be an icon for those that are taking their time to express themselves and their surroundings using Art as their medium.
