Ministry of Women and Social Affairs and UN Women Ethiopia launch The Presidential Leadership Program for Women Leaders. The Ethiopian government is dedicated to empowering women to achieve equal participation and advantages in leadership and decision-making. This will, in turn, cause an overall development of the country.

The Presidential Leadership Program for Women Leaders consists of 10-day training for 60 middle-level women political leaders to enhance their skills.

So far, Ethiopia has 42% women participation in parliament and above 30 % each for women’s leadership at ministerial and state minister levels. It has a ten-year goal of having 50% women participation at all government institutions. This goal is one of many initiatives that will increase women leaders.

President SahleWork Zewde emphasized that the reform has to be led with equal participation and benefit of women and men to eradicate poverty and conflict. She added that the government’s commitment to ensure gender parity should be institutionalized and supported by all stakeholders.
