February 7, 2022

Nigerian Shola Akinlade, African fintech mogul and co-founder of Paystack, establishes a community project, Sporting Lagos Football Club. Shola Akinlade created the club to foster opportunities for the next generation of Nigerian sporting talent. The club aims to utilize football’s ability to gather people from diverse backgrounds & develop economic opportunities.

Ekene Agu, a Paystack employee, Colin Udoh, a former Super Eagles media officer, and Fola Olatuniji-David, a Google employee, are among the governing body to lead the club.

Shola Akinlade stated that he established this club because football is more than entertainment. It is an identity, an opportunity, and this is the reason why he has always been proud to be part of his country and continent.

He added that creative people developed multiple platforms in the past few years, creating opportunities for young Nigerians to achieve excellence. These young innovators turned technology, music, and cinema into prosperous industries that grabbed people’s attention worldwide.

These platforms have had a surge of ecosystems built around them to support millions of people. The same goes for sports where individuals harnessed the football or sports platform to move up and get global acknowledgment.
