The Merck Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA, Germany, that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people and advance their lives through science and technology. Merck Foundation seeks to partner with African First Ladies, Ministries of Health, Education, Information & Communication, Gender, Academia, Research Institutions, Media and Art to create a healthcare capacity and confront health, social & economic challenges in developing countries under-served communities.
The Foundation annually hosts the “MARS Best African Woman Researchers Awards” and “Best Young African Researcher”‘ to recognize women and youth in science. MARS gathers researchers and policymakers from all over Africa to equip them to lead in Africa’s development as an international hub for excellence in scientific innovation. It also has interventions to empower women and youth through general education and STEM.
The Foundation supports African Women in Science & Tech by offering over 550 female doctors scholarships out of 1200. It aims to empower women & young African researchers, advance their capacity and enhance their STEM contribution.
Merck Foundation announces a Call for Applications for their prestigious Merck Foundation Africa Research Summit (MARS) Awards 2022. This contest aims to empower young & women African researchers to strengthen the vital role research plays in contributing to public health and improving healthcare capacity in Africa. This year, the focal point is “‘The Role of Scientific Research in responding to Cancer and Vaccines Development – Two emerging challenges in Africa.’
The deadline for applications is the 31st of July 2022.

• Applications can be submitted via email to mars@merck-foundation.com along with a CV (including Name, Gender, Country, University/Hospital Name, Email address, Mobile Number) and the abstract document as an attachment.
Other Details:
• All Abstracts will be peer-reviewed, and 15 winners will be eligible for sponsorship to attend the MARS Summit
• The best three Abstracts will be eligible for Research Awards
• Research Awards will also be dedicated for Best African Women Researchers
