Ethiopia earns $104 million from industrial parks export revenues from July 2021 to December 2021, a 25% increase from last year’s same period. Ethiopia aims to become a light manufacturing hub by establishing over 30 industrial parks by 2025. The Semera Industrial Park in eastern Ethiopia, 97% complete, is one of the constructions in the industrial hub.

The Ethiopian Government collaborates with the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) to construct multiple industrial parks to achieve Ethiopia’s goal of becoming a light manufacturing hub. Large Chinese corporations invest in multiple industrial hubs, most of which are built with Chinese knowledge and funds.

Industrial Parks are the main projects the Ethiopian Government focuses on to become Africa’s manufacturing hub by 2025. The Government hopes to accelerate the structural transition from Agriculture to an Industry-led economy by bringing in investors and creating jobs.

After the park’s completion, the Government anticipated having over 200,000 direct and 500,000 indirect jobs available. So far, 13 industrial parks have been completed and are operational. In addition, the industrial parks have enabled an excess of 89,000 job opportunities for Ethiopia’s youth.
