KarmSolar, a solar energy start-up, is the first Egyptian company to get an off-grid solar power plant license.

February 18, 2022

KarmSolar is a multi-utility enterprise & service provider specializing in innovative & sustainable solar energy solutions. KarmSolar, one of Egypt’s largest private solar energy companies, becomes the first private company to receive a permit to distribute and sell electricity in Marsa Alam from a primary off-grid solar power plant. Marsa Alam is a booming seaside region and among the most renowned scuba-diving destinations worldwide.

Before this license, the company launched the Marsa Alam Solar Grid, a first-of-its-kind regional energy solution to power resorts across Marsa Alam. These resorts can maintain more sustainable and cost-effective operations by connecting to the national grid and utilizing solar energy.

It aims to power eight resorts to the national grid and builds a dedicated solar station at each resort. The cooperating resorts will save 5-9 Million EGP in grid connection costs. These resorts will be paying KarmSolar electricity bills 50-60% less than their previous energy expenses. In will also receive their energy from their dedicated solar station and the national grid.

Ahmed Zahran, co-founder, and CEO at KarmSolar stated that the Marsa Alam Solar Grid provides a valuable opportunity to previously off-grid resorts in the area to enjoy the benefits of solar energy and grid connection without having to invest millions upfront. He added that the company is looking forward to expanding the project in Marsa Alam and exploring new Solar Grid opportunities around Egypt.

KarmSolars’ objective is to offer sustainable, fully integrated solar energy and water desalination solutions to power and sustainably empower communities across Egypt.
