The Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) celebrates its 80th anniversary on March 4, 2022.

March 5, 2022

Founded in 1942, ENA is the oldest news agency in Ethiopia, serving as a source for local & international news. In addition, the Agency also produced documentaries, feature films, and multiple publications distributed to several public and commercial media outlets in Ethiopia.

It was initially named the Agence Direction. In early 1963, the Agence Direction started to get public recognition through newspapers and radio broadcasting. In 1964, its name changed to the Ethiopian News Source and then switched to the Ethiopian News Agency in 1967.

The 80th anniversary was celebrated with a photo exhibition that depicts the eight decades of the Agency’s journey. It will be open to the public for 10 days. There will also be other events to celebrate ENA, including a panel discussion. Several senior government officials and guests attended the event to celebrate this momentous occasion.
