Ethiopian Airlines appoints Mesfin Tassew, Head of ASKY Airlines, as its Chief Executive Officer. ASKY is a private multinational passenger airline in which Ethiopia holds a 20% share. It is based in Togo that serves markets in West and Central Africa. It also has a strategic partnership with Ethiopian Airlines.
Mesfin served as the managing director at ASKY Airlines for 11 years, where he is a significant stakeholder. He has also served Ethiopian Airlines for 38 years in different positions, like Associate Engineer, managerial & supervisory positions, Director of Operations & Technical Systems Support, Chief Information Officer, VP of Maintenance & Engineering, COO, and Board of Directors.
Mesfin will take over for Tewolde Gebremariam, who recently retired from his CEO position. He will now lead Ethiopian Airlines, which has over 17,000 employees, over 132 aircraft, and annual revenues of US 4 billion. Ethiopian Airlines also appointed Girma Wake, the former CEO of the airline, as its new Chairman of the Board of Management.
