Zemen Bank and Mastercard introduce Ethiopia’s first Mastercard Payment Gateway Services.

March 31, 2022

Zemen Bank is among Ethiopia’s most innovative banks that provide high-quality services to high-net-worth individuals and corporate customers. It became Ethiopia’s first bank to introduce prepaid card services that give its customer base Salary Cards and Consumer Reloadable Cards. Previously, it collaborated with Mastercard to present the first contactless platinum prepaid card widely supported by the bank’s customers from abroad.

On March 29, 2022, Zemen Bank and Mastercard introduced Ethiopia’s first Mastercard Payment Gateway Services for all e-commerce transactions. The new world of digital payments solutions is expected to provide alternative possibilities for Ethiopia’s vendors and businesses in many industries to enhance their customers’ shopping experiences. The platform allows an efficient online buying process, cost reduction, no contact between buyer & seller, and widens the customer base.

MPGS enables payments across web/e-commerce, mail order, telephone order, mobile/m-commerce, and call center using debit, credit, or prepaid cards of MasterCard and VISA schemes. It benefits merchants, buyers, airlines, hotels, tour and travel operators, delivery service providers, and small & medium enterprises (SMEs) to access global markets.
