The United States begins constructing the largest US Consulate globally with $537 million in Eko Atlantic City in Lagos, Nigeria. The 12.2-acre site will benefit locals by investing $95 million in the economy and employing 2,500 Nigerians. The Consulate will employ locals such as engineers, architects, artisans, construction workers, and administrative staff. The workers get technical skills and safety awareness, making them stand out from the local market.
The Consulate provides space for consular operation, like an improved public-facing interview and waiting areas. It supports diplomatic and commercial relations between the United States and Nigeria and gives the two countries’ Consulate employees a safe, secure, sustainable, and modern workplace. The Consulate aims to demonstrate and honor the vibrant relationship between the US and Nigeria.
The project aims at Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification. It is a globally acknowledged achievement in high performance, best-in-class, green buildings — and incorporates many features designed to make the building more sustainable. The construction is estimated to be completed in 2027.
