Bahir Dar Fresh PLC begins blueberry exports, the first of its kind to the international market. It is a private company that produces and exports different fruits & high-value crops. It aims to create 800 jobs and generate $2.5 million annually after its 45-hectare holding is complete in 2 years.
Ethiopia’s Horticulture sector is a priority sector, one of the major contributors is fruit exports. The primary fruit exports are bananas, mangos, avocados, citrus, pineapples, papayas, and strawberries. In the 2020/21 fiscal year, fruit exports generated $531 million in revenue. The Ethiopian Government encourages investors engaged in producing high-value crops to export to the international market.
