Niger signs an MoU with Savannah Energy to develop the first 250MW wind farm in the Tahou region. The wind farm will have 60 turbines with power generation incorporated into the national and regional electricity grid. Savannah Energy is a leading African‑focused British independent energy company currently operating in Niger and Nigeria. The African Energy Chamber (AEC) is committed to enhancing energy companies like Savannah Energy, helping Africa’s energy sector accelerate. Savannah Energy is a leading player in Nigeria, Chad, and Niger. It holds interests in two large-scale onshore oil and gas fields in Nigeria.
The wind farm is expected to tremendously increase Niger’s on-grid power generation capacity, boost economic activity, and create thousands of jobs directly and indirectly in the next ten years. The project aims to increase Niger’s generation capacity & electricity access and relieve West Africa’s energy poverty. This contributes to Niger’s 2035 goal of reaching access to electricity by adopting renewable energy technologies.
