The Global Mercy, the world’s largest hospital ship, will set sail to low-income regions along the coastline of Africa. The ship is part of a fleet owned by Mercy Ships, and the Philips and the Philips Foundation provided the funding, technical installation, and training for the radiology volunteers. It is an organization operating since 1978 that provides medical services in regions where healthcare access is challenging. It is equipped with the latest CT technology and provides medical training and technical installation. The goal is to provide more access to healthcare for people in impoverished areas.
It’s 12 stories high with 6 operating rooms, 199 beds, and 600 volunteers, from medical professionals to technicians and trainers who provide dental care, eye care, and nutrition training. The aim is to provide quality healthcare with diagnostics, surgery, and medical training to improve the lives of 150,000 people living in remote areas.
