Kenyan nurse Anna Qabale Duba wins the 1st Aster Guardian Global Nursing Award and receives $250,000. She was among ten finalists shortlisted from 24,000 nominee nurses globally. The remaining nine received financial rewards of $5,000 each. The Aster Guardian International Nursing Award appreciates the unwavering humanitarian care nurses provide worldwide. It was created in 2021 to acknowledge the nurses that dedicated their time and energy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anna has advocated for menstrual hygiene and education improvement in Marsabit County, Kenya. She founded the Qabale Duba Foundation and created the PAPA Project, a project that supplies sanitary towels and panties to girls in school. The project helped over 3,000 girls continue their education without skipping because of the period. In addition to advocating for girls’ education in Marsabit County, Ms. Anna aims to be an ambassador for girls’ education for the whole continent of Africa.
