The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announces plans to launch the African Super League on August 10, 2023, in Tanzania. The CAF is the African football governing body founded in 1957 by Ethiopia, Egypt, Sudan, and South Africa. CAF is one of the six FIFA continental confederations. The CAF Super League will feature 20-24 clubs from its Member-Associations, with a maximum of 2 clubs per country. The Super League aims to generate $200 million in revenues to boost African football & youth development by giving $100 million to each of CAF’s 54 member associations annually. It will also increase the prize money given to the women’s and men’s CAF Champions Leagues. CAF expected the Super League to boost Africa’s football potential.
