Cup of Excellence (COE) Ethiopia 2022 announces the 40 finalists after evaluating 848 samples from farmers. The COE is the most prestigious competition and auction for top-quality coffees from all over the world. The COE competition has pioneered integrity and transparency in the coffee industry for over 20 years. The quality of COE coffees is unrivaled due to the intense selection process. COE raises funds for farmers in coffee-growing countries, incentivizing and motivating farmers who know that their hard work and effort can be recognized and rewarded financially. The Ethiopian COE partnered with the USAID Feed the Future Ethiopia Value Chain Activity, the Alliance for Coffee Excellence, Ethiopian Coffee & Tea Authority, and the Private Coffee Associations.
The finalists are five presidential, ten national, and 25 COE winners. The top five presidential winners were Legesse Botosa from Sidama Region (scoring 90.69), Kenean Assefa from Sidama Region (90.25), A/Tamam A/Oli from Oromia Region (90.19), Bukato Duge from Sidama Region (90.19), and Samuel Zerihun from Sidama Region (90.08). The top finalists will be available in a 24-hour live auction called the Oscar of Coffee on August 23. The national winners will also have an auction from August 15 to 26. The 2022 coffee auction is expected to bring millions of ETB to Ethiopia, more than the 2021 winners’ record-breaking ETB of 80 million.
