Ethiopia’s National Athletics Team arrives in Addis Ababa

Ethiopia’s National Athletics Team arrives in Addis Ababa to celebrate their World Athletics Championship victory. The athletes collectively won 10 medals: 4 gold, 4 silver, & 2 bronze, placing them in 2nd place in the Medal Table. Ethiopia also received 106 points in the Placing Table, the highest ranked African country & third internationally.

The streets of Addis were filled with adoring fans welcoming the winners back to their country. The Ethiopian Government will celebrate these athletes at a ceremony held in the National Palace. We are very proud of our champions: Letesenbet Gidey (gold and silver), Tamirat Tola (gold), Gotytom Gebreslase (gold), Gudaf Tsegaye (gold and silver), Mosinet Geremew (silver), Werkuha Getachew (silver), Mekides Abebe (bronze), and Dawit Seyaum (bronze). Ethiopia had 40 athletes in total with 21 men and 19 women). They competed in 800m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, 10,000m, and marathon.
