August 9, 2022

Ethio Telecom and Dashen Bank launch Telebirr-based digital financial services to expand financial inclusion. The benefits are micro-credit (Telebirr Mela), overdraft (Telebirr Endekisse), and micro-saving (Telebir Sanduq). Telebirr Mela allows the borrowing and withdrawing of money for any transaction. In contrast, Telebirr Endekisse allows borrowing and withdrawing money for users with less than ETB 100 in their Telebirr account. Telebirr Sandug provides users with interest-free and interest-rate-based micro-savings services.

Telebirr’s services aim to help the financially unserved parts of society get credit without the need for collateral. These services are available on the Telebirr application or by dialing *127#. Ethio Telecom has identified digital finance as a potential growth area and has made significant investments to meet the needs of society’s most underserved and marginalized segments. It is continuously creating services and opportunities to help Ethiopia grow.
