Nigeria has become Africa’s top cryptocurrency holder

Nigeria has become Africa’s top cryptocurrency holder, with over 22 million Bitcoin owners, according to TrippleA. TrippleA is the world’s leading cryptocurrency payment company and database collector. In 2022, TrippleA estimated an estimated 4.2% average global crypto ownership rate, the most important being Bitcoin. Global cryptocurrency ownership has increased by 880% in the past year, with over 320 million users.

Nigeria also has the 4th largest amount of crypto users globally after the US, India, and Pakistan. Nigeria, being Africa’s most populous country, is part of the continent’s four powerhouse countries with the most crypto holders, South Africa, Kenya, and Egypt. Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ethiopia are growing economies that have an increasing number of crypto owners.
