Ethiopia ranks third in the World Athletics U20 Championships with 12 medals

Ethiopia ranks third in the medals table in the World Athletics U20 Championships with 12 medals. Ethiopia also ranks third in the placing table, with 116 points earned from first to eighth place winners. The U20 is the first world championship for athletes under the age of 20 to compete for a major international title on a global stage.

The athletes won 6 gold, 5 silver, & 1 bronze medal in the 800, 1500, 3000, 3000 Steeplechase, & 5000m. Athletes Ermias Girma (800m), Melkeneh Azize (3000m), Addisu Yihune (5000m), Samuel Duguna (3000m Steeplechase), Birke Haylom (1500m), & Medina Eisa (5000m) won gold. Athletes Ermias Girma (1500m), Samuel Firewu (3000m Steeplechase), Tsiyuon Abebe (3000m), Melknat Wudu (5000m), and Sembo Almayew (3000m Steeplechase) received silver medals. Meseret Yeshane won silver for the 3000m Steeplechase.
