Safaricom Ethiopia Launches Its First Customer Pilot Service in Dire Dawa.

afaricom Ethiopia launches a large-scale customer pilot of its network in Dire Dawa city as part of its phased city-by-city regional network rollout and attentive service testing. Safaricom plans to launch its services in 25 cities by April 2023. The customer trial in Dire Dawa is going to be on 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. Customers will be able to purchase SIM cards from branded stores or souks. The SIM cards will come with a welcome offer of data, voice, and SMS to try out for a month. During the Dire Dawa trial, customers will be able to choose their preferred numbers using Safaricom Ethiopia’s 07 prefixes. Customers can also reach the helpline by dialing 700. Customer service is provided in Amharic, Afaan Oromo, Af-Somali, Tigrigna, and English. 

Safaricom Ethiopia has prepared three shops in Kezira, Meskelegna, and Cornell areas, dedicated to helping customers with registration, purchase, and customer support. Customers can buy airtime vouchers from branded shops or souks to recharge their airtime balance and continue using network services with a welcome package. Safaricom has opened three stores for customer registration, device purchases, and dedicated customer support. Customers will be able to use data services, make calls and send SMS to both Safaricom Ethiopia and Ethio Telecom customers, and make international calls worldwide on the Dire Dawa test network.

The customer pilot in Dire Dawa is part of the official switch-on of the company’s network and service. Safaricom plans to transform the telecommunication service in Ethiopia, having a long-term objective of transforming in partnership with the government, businesses, and local communities.
