Bego Sew Award announces its 2022 winners

The Bego Sew Award has been recognizing and honoring individuals in many categories for the past ten years, founded to honor individuals who are making a difference in Ethiopia. The 2022 award announced nine winners in different categories and a special award. The award honored individuals who have made notable contributions and set an example for Ethiopia and its citizens. President Sahle-Work Zewde presented the awards at the 2022 Bego Sew Award ceremony, which took place at the Inter Luxury Hotel.

The award nominated 27 individuals in 9 categories: art, education, civic engagement, media & journalism, culture & heritage, humanitarian endeavors, Ethiopian diaspora, business and entrepreneurship, and science. Athlete Derartu Tulu was given the special Bego Sew award in recognition of her outstanding leadership abilities while serving as the president of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation. For this year’s Bego Sew Award, there were approximately 691 nominations. The winners of the 2022 Bego Sew Award were chosen from among 27 nominees. Here are the winners of the 2022 Bego Sew award:

In the Film Direction (Art) category, Alemtsehay Bekele, a film producer, and scriptwriter.
In the Education/Teachers category, Dr. Wubeshet Zikhyale, a teacher at AAU.
In government and public services. Girma Wake, Board Chairperson of Ethiopian Airlines Group
In the Journalism & Media Category, Solomon Gebresilassie of Ethiopian Radio
In the cultural and heritage sector, Hajji Mohamed Awol Hamiza, an Ethiopian MADIH.
In the Humanitarian work category, Kibre Kebede for community initiation in different Areas.
In the Diaspora category, Ribka Getachew of Haile Minas Academy.
In the Business & Entrepreneurship section, Seid Mohamed of Ambassador Brand.
In the Science Category, Prof. Redda Teklehaymanot from AAU, Department of Neurology MD, FRCPC, PhD.
